The Odyssey drifted through the blackness between galaxies, its sensors picking up nothing but the echo of ancient stars. Captain Elena Vasquez stood on the bridge, her eyes on the viewscreen.

"Command, this is Odyssey. We've entered a void. No stars, no planets, no signals."

"Copy, Odyssey. Proceed with caution."

The void was vast, empty, cold. The crew grew restless. Days passed without incident.

Then the sensors picked up something-a faint glimmer, far in the distance.

"Take us closer," Elena ordered.

The glimmer resolved into a ship-ancient, massive, its hull covered in strange symbols.

"Hail them," Elena said.

No response. The ship drifted, silent, dead.

"Send an away team."

Elena led the team into the ship. The corridors were dark, the air stale. In the command center, a holographic display flickered to life, revealing a figure-tall, silver-skinned, its eyes empty.

"We are the Builders," it said. "We created the weapon. We destroyed ourselves."

"What happened?" Elena asked.

"The weapon backfired. It consumed our star, our planet, our people. We are the last."

"Come with us," Elena said. "We have a colony. You can start over."

The figure's eyes glowed. "We are too few. But our knowledge can help you."

The Builders' data was downloaded into the Odyssey's computers.

Elena turned the ship toward home.

The universe was vast.

But now, they were not alone.
